Our JourneySuperior Shea started in September 2017 after founder, Miles J Davis, traveled to the Upper West region of Ghana with Majeed Bobotiaroh to conduct his master's research on permaculture systems within the shea butter supply chain. Miles wanted to learn how to make shea butter, where it came from, and the livelihoods of the people and communities in which the skin care product originated.
Miles participated in the three day process of making shea butter with Majeed's family in Tumu. During these three days, he experienced the tiring work they endure on a consistent basis to create this international product. He also learned how the women get "cheated" from local buyers when they purchase shea butter at a low price.
Majeed encouraged Miles to share this product with the world, and to share the stories of his family, these women who produce shea butter. This experience and knowledge led Miles to begin Superior Shea, and to make this a social impact business venture. Miles wanted to do his part to share the shea, and connect the African Diaspora through this product. He wanted to build a fair and equitable business to improve the livelihoods of all stakeholders involved.
